Call for Action on Mass Shootings (Original Document)

How many signatures will it take to change their minds?

The following letter will be sent out this week, feel free to send this to your senator:

As of today, there have been more than 200 mass shootings in the United States for the year 2022. According to The Washington Post, “not a single week in 2022 has passed without at least four mass shootings.” This is a clear sign that our government is not protecting its citizens. When we say we want gun control, we mean we want guns to stop taking countless lives. We want to feel safe in educational institutions. We want acts of hate to stop being so easy to carry out. We want the government to care about people, not guns. Right now, so many politicians are protecting guns and failing to protect people because money is more important than living, breathing humans. Each life taken with a gun is yet another paycheck from the National Rifle Association. In 2020, the National Rifle Association spent $2.20 million to benefit political campaigns. According to the Brady Campaign (CFC Number: 11195), Ted Cruz has received at least $176,274 from the National Rifle Association and there are 3,647 gun deaths per year in the state of Texas which is nearly triple the number of gun deaths per year in any other state where senators are given money by the National Rifle Association. When comparing Ted Cruz to Mitt Romney, who receives $13.6 million from the National Rifle Association and has 400 gun deaths per year in Utah, there is a clear difference in the amount of care shown toward the people they represent. While there may not be a correlation between the amount of money given to these senators and the amount of gun deaths per year in their state, it is clear that many senators are failing to protect their people because money has become their motivation to do absolutely nothing to prevent mass shootings. This is disgusting, shameful, and unacceptable. The Uvalde massacre that cost 22 lives and injured 17 people should have been an undeniable wake-up call to politicians around the United States that gun control must happen, yet Texas politicians still want to do nothing except get their paychecks while we die. We are calling on you to protect our right to life. The reason the Second Amendment exists is to protect people from the government and for self-defense, yet the government is actively threatening human life by refusing to set restrictions on guns. Stop being reactive and start being proactive. Propose a bill that will only allow law enforcement with prior training with assault rifles to possess such weapons, as long as they were not fired or dishonorably discharged from duty, because average people do not need assault rifles for any reasonable purpose. Propose a bill that will require at least a 30-day waiting period when buying a gun in order to prevent impulse buying by distraught citizens. Propose a bill that would require every person over the age of 10, in a home with firearms, to take a firearms safety course that must be renewed every few years. Propose a bill that would allow certain school officials, not teachers, to carry a firearm to protect students and faculty. Propose a bill that requires some type of psychiatric evaluation or a combat simulation combined with brain wave emotion analysis to determine whether or not someone is mentally fit to use a firearm. Propose a bill that will protect people, not guns. Although these proposed bills will cost lots of money if passed, the amount of lives they will save is undoubtedly worth every cent. In addition, if the proposal of this bill is questioned due to cost, it should be noted that anyone wanting to possess a gun should pay for the expenses themselves. Finally, The overall management of these shootings by elected government officials is unacceptable, disorganized, reckless, careless, selfish, negligent, murderous, and unprofessional. The minuscule amount of care shown toward the people is disgraceful and the criticism on this subject should not be taken lightly. I urge the recipients of this letter to share it with fellow elected officials and politicians regardless of party affiliation.
