The relatively recent Peoria Public Schools (PPS) change to a modified calendar format has been received with mixed reviews.  Many teachers and families enjoy the extra opportunities to recharge and travel with mid-semester breaks.  However, teachers and support staff are observing more challenges with the length of the breaks and resetting expectations after them.  And families are feeling pinched in the summer as it is possible for school to both conclude after Memorial Day and restart in late July. 

The open question is if this new calendar structure can be tweaked in a way that preserves the core intent but addresses some of the challenges.  In the next month, the PPS Board of Education will have the opportunity to consider just such a proposal.  Will you support the updated calendar proposal?

• Fall Break: 6 days + adjoining weekends
• Finish: Fri, December 20
