The Issue
On May 15, 2025, we lost a young man with one of the kindest hearts you'll ever know—Clark Prather. At just 19 years old, Clark was about to graduate high school and had his whole life ahead of him. He was tragically killed when a driver turned left in front of him while he was riding his motorcycle—either not seeing him or not looking for him at all. My name Cori Kidwell, Clark was my 3rd son of four boys, and since his passing, I’ve made it my mission along with one of his good friends Tony Palafox to raise awareness about motorcycle safety. This tragedy has stirred in us a deep desire to help make our roads safer—not just for riders, but for all drivers, especially young and inexperienced ones. I believe Clark would have wanted that too. In Clark’s memory, we are asking vehicle and GPS manufacturers to consider implementing two safety features aimed at increasing Motorcycle Safety Awareness (MSA): 1. The Clark Light – A dashboard indicator that activates when a driver uses a turn signal. It would briefly display a reminder:
“Look Twice for Riders” Or show a motorcycle symbol.
This subtle cue could prevent tragic oversights and encourage safer habits. 2. Clark’s Message – A GPS-integrated alert that displays and optionally speaks the message “Look Twice for Riders” when a route is entered and again when the driver approaches an intersection. This reminder, placed at key decision points, can increase attentiveness and reduce fatalities. These features are simple, and would be optional, but we believe they can save lives. On the same day Clark died, three motorcyclists lost their lives. Since then, many more have followed. We need more in-car technology that supports situational awareness and saves lives—not just through automation, but through education and reminders. We hope you will consider helping turn this vision into reality. Naming these features after Clark ensures his legacy will serve others. It’s a small tribute with the potential for a profound impact. Thank you for your time, your compassion, and your commitment to safer roads for not just motorcyclists, but bicyclists and pedestrians. God bless you, and please—stay safe out there. Sincerely, Cori Kidwell &
