Proposal for Electoral Reform in Queensland

Proposal for Electoral Reform in Queensland
The issue
As both a voter and a candidate in Queensland State elections, I am all too familiar with the intrusive nature of our current process. As a voter, I find myself frequently swarmed by volunteers at polling booths, handing out leaflets, causing great discomfort and pressure. As a candidate, I have witnessed the stress endured by volunteers who must commit considerable time and resources to their cause. Moreover, the excessive reliance on paper resources during these events is on its face, wasteful.
To alleviate these concerns, this petition calls for the removal of volunteers from polling booths. This is to minimise the barrage of information voters face at the entry, allow for a peaceful decision-making process and, not least, alleviate pressure off the volunteers themselves.
This shift in our current system doesn't imply the removal of necessary information; instead, it supports making all information about candidates available inside the polling booths. Removing volunteers doesn't mean taking away their voice but rather, providing an equal, centralised platform for all voices to be heard, without the unnecessary pressure.
In addition, I am advocating for a significant change in our state election style. Specifically, I propose to compress the early voting period from two weeks to one, thereby reducing the taxpayer's burden. In 2019, the Queensland Government reported the cost of running a full election at an estimated $27.3 Million AUD – a significant part of which falls within early voting administration and resources.
This petition does NOT call for any change in postal voting.
Join me in updating the electoral system and embracing a voting experience free from unwanted hassles. Your signature can help bring about a significant, positive change to Queensland's voting process. Let's deliver this message to the Queensland Electoral Commission and ensure future elections are comfortable, peaceful and environmentally friendly. Please sign this petition.
