Property Taxes and Yearly Appraisals for Primary Residence

The Issue

In the current housing market, finding or buying or building your dream home is tough, challenging and also to compete with potential buyers who are in need of home. And we continue to see the demand, because of the low inventory, supply chain issues and very few to None inventory homes. 

Recently, I saw an updated value of my Primary Residence from Collin County, with an increased home value of 200K+ (or) >10% (With HS Exempt) of the last year value for the same status quo, however when it comes to paying property taxes, its an increase per month which will impact the affordability and ability to run families with already increased prices every where..

During these testing times of pandemic and inflation at the highest, we all need to come together and think differently on what will be the best for community to continue to support our ISD and call its a great place to live...

Would like to propose or like to see a change in how these Appraisals are done. When permitted by law or as per the real estate norms - Can we make looks at couple of changes/options on

a) how and frequency of home values will be appraised (or)

b) reduce the tax rate ? (or)

c) Enact the California tax system where the owner pays taxes on the his/her purchase price as long as he/she lives there…it can be 10,20,30 years

a) If we are occupying home as a primary residence and maintaining the same status from last 2-3 years(it will take sometime to adjust and reflect the true value) and continue to do so, those Home(s)/ Home owners should be exempted from the price increase/changes (as they don't enjoy those home value because, we will not realize it unless we have any material transaction) 

b) If there is no method or not practically possible to implement the appraisal frequency for Primary Residence, can we look at an alternate tax rate, which will save hundreds of dollars if not thousands...

c) CA Tax System - Owner will know the tax rate well ahead and this will give a piece of mind and number that can be forecasted at the time of purchase knowing that it will not be adjusted every year...
