Show SOLIDARITY in support of Bushwick's community fridge on Myrtle/Willoughby

The Issue

The "Willoughby Cornerstore" is a community fridge and pantry built and supported by and for the community of Bushwick. The fridge sits on Charles Place, where Willoughby and Myrtle Aves intersect. This is an alley known for its homeless population.

In the 10 or so days that this fridge has been in place, the positive impact it has made on our community is visible and tangible. This fridge feeds itself! It is stocked by the people of Bushwick several times a day, and emptied out constantly by us people who need the goods being brought here. The encounters that take place in front of and leading to the fridge are full of love and positivity, a message that is echoed by the action of providing food to all, free from judgement and class obstructions. Volunteers tend to cleanup and maintenance of the fridge. It is safe, consistently clean, and open for anyone who needs it.

The owner of the empty and unused space, where the fridge sits, wants this pillar of our community gone.

We all have things we don't need, and need things we don't have. Willoughby Corner is here to make that scale more balanced, and to promote food security during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Willoughby Cornerstore is one of a whole (rapidly growing) network of community fridges, originally in NYC, but now across the whole country! Please show support to the community fridge movement that combats food insecurity that's been especially booming since the coronavirus pandemic began spreading in the U.S.
