Properly Fund Education in England

Properly Fund Education in England
The Issue
Experienced teachers are struggling to secure jobs while Early Career Teachers (ECTs) frequently succeed in interviews. This trend increases the burden on schools, forcing them to support a growing number of ECTs with less experienced staff. Consequently, experienced educators and their families face economic pressures due to unemployment, and our children are learning in increasingly large classes. In many cases, they are being taught by unqualified teaching assistants or temporary staff.
For years, education in England has been grappling with chronic underfunding. Schools are forced to make tough decisions, often cutting back on essential resources including staffing, educational materials, and maintenance. Government statistics show that 83% of schools are predicted to face funding cuts by the 2024-2025 academic year if no interventions are made. The result is a challenging learning environment where educational quality is compromised, and this directly impacts the future of our children.
Under these strained circumstances, it's imperative that the government takes decisive action to ensure that schools have the financial resources necessary to operate efficiently. By increasing funding, schools can hire and retain qualified, experienced teachers who can provide high-quality education. It would also reduce class sizes and allow for proper upkeep of school facilities, creating a conducive learning environment.
We urge the Department for Education to prioritize budget allocations for primary and secondary education, reform funding formulas to address disparity, and actively invest in the infrastructure of educational facilities across England.
