Properly Address the Antisemitic and Racist Shooting Threat at Stafford High School

Properly Address the Antisemitic and Racist Shooting Threat at Stafford High School
The Issue
By failing to correctly address violent rhetoric against ethnic and racial minorities, everyone will be endangered.
On May 5th, 2026, multiple shooting threats claiming a sequel to the Columbine High School massacre would occur on May 20th were written and later found in two bathrooms at our school. These shooting threats were accompanied by a verse from a Nazi marching song, several images of Nazi swastikas, and multiple statements directing violence directly at Jewish people and more broadly those who are "not white".
The response from the principal representing our school, Mrs. Tryon, was an email that claimed that the now removed graffiti was "racially insensitive and threatening", and that their Safety and Security team are currently investigating.
This email made no mention of the antisemitic rhetoric presented by the graffiti, the promised shooting, or the date on which the vandal(s) said it would take place. On the other hand, a large portion of the email seemed to attempt to reassure any readers that Stafford High School does not align with the sort of speech presented by the graffiti. This, however, should go without saying, and may be better supported by visible action, rather than a fervent written insistence that it is the case.
As a result of the lack of information given by the school, students at Stafford High School have been forced to find out further information from other students at Stafford High School. Of course, this is the perfect entrance from which untrue rumors and disinformation can creep in, directly as a result of Stafford High School's unwillingness to both address the situation with the seriousness it deserves or provide the details needed to let Stafford High School families make informed decisions without needing to solicit unofficial information.
Stafford High's administration should provide a response that focuses less on protecting their reputation and more on providing information. The first part can be done by publicly calling the graffiti what it is: bigoted, racist, and antisemitic. What will address the second part is by stating it is a shooting threat, rather than referring to it broadly as "threatening language".
