Prompt The Public Works Department to Take Immediate Action Over Recurring Water Issues
The Issue
Like many residents of the city of Bethalto, I find myself persistently dealing with the issue of our water supply being perpetually brown. This issue has gone unresolved for too long, leading to numerous inconveniences in our day-to-day lives.
Our public works department often fails to inform us adequately when there are breakages in water pipes, construction works, or even routine flushing of the system. We as residents are left to deal with the aftermath of unsafe, murky water which is not just unfit for consumption but also ruins our laundry and affects every aspect of our daily living.
When we are informed by the water department about these disturbances, the only advice dispensed is to let our taps run cold until the water clears. But this has proven to be a futile effort. Our water bills continue to rise each month, burdening us unnecessarily, and we are yet to see a clear drop of water from our taps. The additional costs of store-bought water for drinking and brushing teeth, and water filters to try and purify this brown water are increasing, causing further strain.
The sustained inaction about these persistent water issues in Bethalto is concerning. We urge the public works department of the city to lower the unit usage price until they can guarantee the water treatment, maintenance, repair, and improvements to the water system that have been long overdue. This is not just about the immediate financial impact but also about the larger public health concerns that arise from consistent ingestion of unsanitary water.
We demand immediate action from our local government. Bethalto residents expect transparency, accountability, and solutions to these inexcusable water issues. Sign this petition to put pressure on the City of Bethalto and the Public Works Department to address this situation as a matter of urgency.
