Promote ICT as a Catalyst for Change in Quezon City

The Issue

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has the potential to revolutionize many aspects of our lives, from education to healthcare, and even governance. In Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines, however, there is still much work to be done in harnessing the full potential of ICT.

Despite being one of the most populous cities in the country with over 2.9 million residents (Philippine Statistics Authority), many households and institutions lack adequate access to modern technology tools and high-speed internet connectivity. This digital divide hinders opportunities for learning, innovation, and economic growth.

Moreover, ICT can play a pivotal role in enhancing transparency and accountability within local government units by digitizing public records and facilitating online transactions. According to Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index 2020 report, Philippines ranks 115 out of 180 countries indicating a serious problem with corruption that could be mitigated through effective use of ICT.

We call on our local government officials in Quezon City to prioritize investments in ICT infrastructure development as well as training programs that will equip our citizens with necessary digital skills. By doing so we can bridge the digital divide while fostering an environment conducive for innovation that will drive socio-economic progress.
