The Issue

We are aware of a grave injustice which has occurred within the Quaker Oats Company.

Cap'n Crunch has worked for Quaker Oats for the past 62 years. That is about three quarters of the average human's life!! He has dedicated his life to defeating the Soggies, which he has done without fail. He has also protected the Crunchberries for most of those years.

We believe that at the very least, the Quaker Oats Company should honor the Cap'n by promoting him to an Admiral.

The people of America and other cereal-consuming communities all over the world are coming together and signing this petition to show their undying support for the Cap'n. We believe that this fictional character will come alive to bask in the glory of his accomplishments and promotion.

At the very least, we'd settle for Admr'l Crunch...

Press coverage for this cause has reached tv, radio, newspapers, and magazines, including the Washington Post, LA Times, and even a mention on the pilot episode of Futurama!

ABOUT US & THIS CAUSE:

Way back in 1995 or so, a couple teenagers in Waterloo, IA by the names of Sam Buck and John Andres were screwing around being weird and funny, and thought that Cap'n Crunch should be promoted to an Admiral. So they called Quaker Oats and told them what they thought. Quaker Oats liked the idea and even sent them a padded envelope to send a petition and an audio tape saying why they thought he should be promoted. So Sam and John started up a petition getting names from their high school and even took it to Scout camp with them that summer. Eric Dodge, another member of their Scout Troop and friend of both of theirs, was one of the couple people that walked through the huge camp to all the camp sites with John and Sam trying to get as many signatures as possible. The total was somewhere around 200 names. That's a lot of names for such an odd thing!

After that, John made an online version of the petition and posted it on his website. Then the idea of promoting Cap'n Crunch kind of faded away, but Eric was lucky enough to copy the page's HTML code and pictures before John's web page got erased. Then, in 1998, John and Eric started the petition up again, with a new and updated physical petition, as well as a newly redisigned webpage. Their goal was to get to 500 names!! And if you think about it, 500 is a LOT. After 500 names was reached and passed (very quickly too), The goal became 1,000 names! Hundreds of names were pouring into Eric's mailbox from the webpage. Eric and John started submitting the URL to as many search engines as possible and Eric wrote an article for an online zine called Yellow Dog. After 1,000 names came and went, the goal was 2,000!! Eric wrote an article for the Waterloo Courier, a newspaper in Waterloo, IA. The next day, Eric got an email from someone signing the petition saying that they heard about it from an article in the Washington Post! A little after that, KWWL, a NBC station in Waterloo, Iowa did a story on us. Eric was online when it aired and started getting emails of people signing the petition as SOON as the story was done! Then, more and more names keep coming in as John and Eric, and their cause, were featured in more and more newspaper, magazines, and online zines across the nation! The goal of 2,000, once reached, marked that John and Eric were going to send the petition into Quaker Oats. But due to their conflicting schedules, John and Eric didn't really get that chance. The goal of 2,000 came and went. Eric said that they should start getting everything ready to send out and a video to Quaker Oats recorded, and hopefully by that time, they'll have 2,500 names to send to Quaker Oats. Well, the video finally got made not too long after, and the count then was 2,679 names.

The list of names grew and grew, eventually reaching 3819 as of 11/16/2000.

John, Eric, and Sam were all young at the time... in high school, dealing with jobs, graduation, and beyond. Things got left by the wayside and unfortunately forgotten. Over the years several copycat webpages and petitions have shown up online, and Eric always had the idea to bring it back.

Now 45, Eric has dug out all of the paper petitions, copies of press, and found a preserved copy of the website to start pulling from and use to resurrect this cause. We now have a petition on Change.org, and plan to use signatures from that petition as well as all of the records of signatures that we collected in the past to send to Quaker Oats to finally put this quest to bed!

So hold on tight and just wait and see! SOON, the Cap'n MIGHT just become an Admiral! SIGN THE PETITION NOW!
