Project Wheels -- Persuading local politicians into adding BMX courses and a skatepark.

The Issue

Dear reader,

I hope this petition finds you well. Let me introduce myself. My name is Doniyorbek, or Doni (don-ee). I am a young man trying to better my community. I am also a Philadelphia Fire Explorer and Junior Counselor for the Pennsylvania State Police. I am destined to be on the front lines, helping my community even more. On my off days, I volunteer at local food banks and, most importantly, I exercise. Exercising is mostly what I do, whether it's jogging, riding my bike, or even skating.

Let's get to the point of this petition: what do people detest the most when they exercise? Bad drivers, and nowhere reliable to practice. Each day, kids and adults, including me, anticipate going on rough sidewalks and parking lots to practice their tricks, commute, and maintain their physical health. Let us break the cycle, starting by adding a skatepark and/or BMX court. One place I suggest that is within Far Northeast Philadelphia is Gifford Park. There is already a small slab of concrete sitting there, waiting for its next use.

Pros -
Safety. A safe and reliable place for people in our community to practice their tricks, and exercise

Community Outreach. Get more people to either invest in skateboards or bikes to try out the park. Having a school as a neighbor helps direct the flow of kids to the park and not their devices

Keeps kids from doing wheelies and tricks out of roads and harm's way (I confess)

Cons -
Cost. Costs may halt production of this project, unless we get sponsors. I am in the process of contacting companies.

There are a couple of personal reasons I am interested in adding these two crucial elements to our local playground. One may simply be that the nearest skatepark is 30 minutes away during rush hour. And the other is that we can commemorate these parks by naming them for Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald, who died serving his city.

Signing this petition can help me, and residents of the community be safer and have more options to practice their tricks. Let's make our voices heard and show our elected officials that we care about the safety and happiness of our community's children. Sign this petition now and let's make a BMX park and Skatepark a reality in our neighborhood!
