Located in Binan, Laguna, the Alberto Mansion stands out for its dilapidated state; it’s roof has caved in and its structure is decaying. In its glory days, the mansion was home to the wealthy Alonso family, of which Teodora Alonso, the mother of Dr. Jose Rizal, was part. She was an immensely influential figure in our National Hero’s life, from his childhood up until his death.
The AlbertoMansion must be saved because it is not only the home of Jose Rizal’s mother but also considered as a historical treasure because national treasures and memories are housed in the mansion. It must be saved in order to preserve the historical memories of Rizal and his mother who played a big role in his life.
The distinct architecture of the house highlights the authentic architecture of Filipino-Spanish houses which we must preserve similar to those found in Ilocos, Vigan. Moreover, the house is a living soul or treasure that reminds us of the legacy of Teodora Alonso who also experienced suffering and imprisonment during her lifetime amidst her son’s execution.
It is the only remaining heritage site in the area, therefore it must be preserved since Calamba is the hometown of our national hero. There must be a historical site that highlights Rizal’s memory and legacy in that area to commemorate him. Finally, restoring and saving the Alberto Mansion helps in the restoration of the old Binan, thus, helping reconstruct a lost culture of a town.
