Project REAP (Reading Enhancement and Advancement Program)

Project REAP (Reading Enhancement and Advancement Program)
The Issue
In today's changing society, many students are struggling with reading, when in fact reading is a fundamental skill that can have a big impact on students' lifelong learning. The purpose of this reading program is to engage students in reading activities at least 3 times a week. By doing this, we aim to improve students on their reading and also enhance their vocabulary to support their overall academic development. Reading regularly helps students understand the world around them better and gives them the tools to succeed in school and beyond. It also builds confidence, making learning more enjoyable and less frustrating. With a strong reading foundation, students can learn new things more easily in all subjects. This program will provide fun and interesting books and activities to keep students motivated. Ultimately, we hope that by encouraging regular reading, students will develop a lasting love for books and learning.
This projects main purpose are:
• Project REAP supports learners who have difficulties in reading through guidance from fellow students.
• It holds one-hour sessions twice a week after class to strengthen reading skills, build confidence, and develop a love for learning.
• The goal is to help struggling readers improve literacy, understand lessons better, perform well in school, and enjoy reading as a lifelong skill. • The program also helps the student volunteers practice leadership, patience, and compassion while contributing to their peers’ growth.
Project REAP is an initiative designed to improve reading skills and foster a love for literature among students. The project aims to create a supportive and engaging environment where students can enhance their reading abilities, expand their vocabulary, and develop critical thinking skills. The Project REAP Facebook page will serve as a central hub for the program, providing a platform for students, teachers, and parents to access resources, share experiences, and stay updated on project activities. The page will feature:
1. Reading materials and resources
2. Book reviews and recommendations
3. Reading challenges and quizzes
4. Author spotlights and interviews
5. Student book clubs and discussions
How it Works:
1. Students will be invited to join the Project REAP Facebook page and participate in reading challenges, quizzes, and discussions.
2. Teachers and mentors will provide guidance and support, sharing reading materials and resources.
3. Students will engage with peers and mentors through online discussions, sharing thoughts and insights on books and reading.
4. Regular updates and announcements will be posted on the page, highlighting project activities and achievements.
Project REAP will be supported through partnerships with teachers, parents, and community stakeholders who share the goal of improving literacy. The Facebook page will also serve as a platform where supporters can contribute by sharing resources, promoting activities, and encouraging student participation. This collective support will ensure that the project remains engaging, sustainable, and beneficial for all learners. Types of Support
• Financial Support – for books, printing materials, incentives, and activity needs
• Material Support – donations of storybooks, reference books, learning kits, and digital tools
• Human Resource Support – volunteer teachers, peer mentors, and guest storytellers
