Project Kaiden: Demand Immediate Pedestrian Safety on West Franklin Street

On March 27, 2026, Kaiden Cherven lost his life on the 2100 block of West Franklin Street. He was 21 years old—hardworking, spirited, and a vital part of our community.

This wasn't a random accident. West Franklin Street lacks basic safety infrastructure for a high-traffic entertainment district, and that cost Kaiden his life.

We're asking Evansville City Council, the Board of Public Safety, and City Engineering to implement Project Kaiden right now:

• Physical barriers (permanent bollards or planters) between sidewalk and street

• A 20-MPH speed limit designating the 2100 block as a Pedestrian Safety Zone

• Digital radar feedback signs to alert drivers and collect speed data

• Blocking the 2100 block of West Franklin Street

Franklin Street should be a place where we celebrate life, not mourn it. Evansville has the heart. Will you help us make sure no other family experiences this tragedy? Sign the petition and tell our leaders: it's time to prioritize people over speed.

Sign your name to tell the Evansville City Council: It is time to prioritize people over speed. It is time for Project Kaiden.
