I am a resident of Phoenix, AZ, deeply concerned about the safety and serenity of our city streets. My concern stems from a growing trend that I believe is not only distracting but also potentially dangerous - automobiles and trucks with large flags attached to them driving within city limits.

These flags, while perhaps an expression of personal freedom or pride, can be incredibly distracting to other drivers. They flutter in the wind, drawing attention away from the road and onto themselves. This distraction could lead to accidents causing damages or even deaths.

According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), distracted driving claimed 3,142 lives in 2019 alone. While these statistics aren't specific to flags on vehicles, they highlight the broader issue at hand - distractions on roads are lethal.

Moreover, this practice can contribute to road rage incidents as it disrupts smooth traffic flow and irritates other drivers due to its unnecessary nature. The American Automobile Association (AAA) reports that aggressive driving plays a role in 56% of fatal crashes.

By prohibiting large flags on cars and trucks  within city limits we can reduce distractions and potential road rage incidents thus keeping insurance levels minimal for everyone involved.

For these reasons stated above we urge lawmakers in Phoenix AZ to make it illegal for motorists to attach large flags onto their vehicles when driving within city limits. Please sign this petition if you too believe that our roads should be safer and less distracting for all who use them.
