Prohibit the Use of IXL in All Dade County Schools
The Issue
I am a student deeply affected by the continual use of IXL in our educational scenery. I believe, based on my firsthand experience, that this tool is skewing a potentially healthy learning environment into one that promotes child gambling and disregards the concept of well-timed lessons. Unfortunately, I'm not alone. Numerous students in Dade county schools are subjected to unlimited hours on this platform, sinking in a never-ending learning process. With no limit on lesson duration, the system encourages mindless playing rather than purposeful learning. Moreover, the random rewards system used by IXL is alarmingly similar to a gambling framework, desensitizing children to the potential dangers of such patterns from early on. We must prioritize holistic and ethical educational tools that are sensitive to the unique learning styles and emotional wellbeing of students. It's time we call upon the policy makers of Dade County to put strict limitations on the use of such academic programs or ban them entirely. Allowing IXL to continue in our schools erodes the chance at a comprehensive, suitable education for everyone. Join us as we fight for better learning conditions, improved accountability in our education system, and the removal of IXL from all Dade County schools. Sign the petition.
