I am writing this petition out of personal pain and loss. Recently, a loved one was tragically taken from us due to a firework igniting a gas explosion. This devastating incident has made it clear how dangerous fireworks can be, especially during celebrations like Diwali.

Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is celebrated with joy and enthusiasm across the globe. However, the use of fireworks during this festival poses serious threats to both human life and our environment. According to a study by India's Chest Research Foundation and Peking University, firework displays during Diwali significantly increase air pollution levels (source: The Guardian). This not only affects people with respiratory conditions but also contributes to global warming.

Moreover, there are numerous reports each year about injuries caused by fireworks during these celebrations. In 2019 alone, over 270 cases were reported in Delhi (source: Times of India).

We understand that traditions are important but we must adapt them for our safety and for future generations. We urge authorities to prohibit the use of fireworks during Diwali celebrations in order to prevent further tragedies like ours from happening.
