Our lives have been personally affected due to nitrous oxide abuse. Both my own child and a friend's child fell prey to this addiction, standing at the brink of death. The damage caused by nitrous oxide misuse is often physical, psychological, emotional and sometimes irreversible/fatal. Nitrous is only legal to sell for kitchen and cooking purposes yet is sold in almost every smoke shop and gas station. We Must hold these businesses accountable and get this harmful substance off the shelves! Please help!!!

The fast-spreading misuse of nitrous oxide as a "party drug" isn't just a problem for our families; it’s an escalating issue in Michigan and beyond. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, nitrous oxide is among the top four substances abused by 8th, 10th, and 12th graders, after alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2018).

The state of Michigan urgently needs to step in and ban the sale of nitrous oxide tanks and cartridges to stem this dangerous tide. It's essential that we nip this issue in the bud before it escalates into a full-blown public health crisis, saving numerous young lives from the grip of addiction and the dark path of damage.
