My late husband died in 2020 of Glioblastoma, a very aggressive and incurable brain cancer. We donated his brain to Harvard for research into Glioblastoma. Unbeknownst to us, there was a Harvard employee stealing donated bodies and body parts and selling them all over the country. The world was robbed of precious science.

It is not illegal to sell body parts; the people involved are only charged with transporting stolen goods. Therefore, the punishment is not fitting of the crime. This loophole in our legal system allows for such heinous acts to continue with minimal consequences.

According to a report by Reuters (2017), there is an alarming lack of regulation in this area leading to a thriving black market for human body parts across America. This illicit trade not only disrespects those who generously donate their bodies for scientific research but also hinders crucial advancements in medical science.

We need legislation that specifically addresses this issue, making it illegal to sell human body parts under any circumstances and ensuring that punishments are severe enough to deter potential criminals.

This petition calls on lawmakers nationwide to enact federal laws prohibiting the sale of human body parts, thereby honoring those who have made selfless donations towards scientific advancement and protecting future donors from exploitation.
