Our request is straightforward and simple: prohibit the sale of Halal meat in the United Kingdom. The UK is a diverse nation that celebrates cultural exchange and respects religious freedom. Nonetheless, there is an ongoing debate about ethical standards in the food industry, particularly relating to Halal slaughter methods. Under Halal practices, animals are often killed without pre-slaughter stunning, raising concerns about animal welfare. According to data from the Food Standards Agency, in 2018, over 94 million animals were slaughtered without being stunned first in England and Wales alone, representing 19% of sheep and goats, 16% of poultry and 3% of cattle (FSA, 2018). It is essential to balance respect for cultural and religious practices with our commitment to animal welfare. Therefore, this petition seeks to ban the sale of Halal meat in the UK until appropriate and ethical methods are implemented consistently across the board.
