Prohibit the Online Sale of Knives in the United Kingdom

Prohibit the Online Sale of Knives in the United Kingdom
The Issue
It is the start of 2025, and already we are reeling from the surge of knife crimes in the United Kingdom. The ongoing knife crime epidemic resonates close to home, particularly following the tragic incident involving the murder of three innocent young girls in Southport and the 12 year old boy in Birmingham. In Southport, the weapon was purchased online from Amazon by a child of 17 years old.
The gravity of this problem is becoming too devastating to ignore. In 2020 alone, the Office for National Statistics recorded 46,265 knife crime offences in England and Wales (ONS, 2021). This staggering figure demonstrates the urgency to address unrestricted online sales of knives which enables easy access to deadly weapons, especially to those under 18.
We need immediate action. We ask that the United Kingdom pass legislation to BAN the online sale of all knives completely - despite age. By restricting accessibility, we can significantly decrease the incidence of knife-related crimes and losses. Tragedies like what unfolded in Southport should not repeat themselves; our communities deserve to live without fear.
Together, we can help put to an end to this heart-wrenching cycle of violence. Please, for a safer United Kingdom, sign this petition and say no to online knife sales.
