Prohibit the Inhumane Practice of Horse-Drawn Carriages in Houston
The Issue
I am deeply distressed by the sight of horses being forced to work against their will, pulling carriages through the bustling streets of Downtown Houston. These magnificent creatures are made to work long hours in an environment that is far from their natural habitat. The urban setting, with its loud noises and pungent fumes, can cause severe psychological distress and physical harm to these animals.
Horses are sensitive creatures who can suffer from noise anxiety. The constant cacophony of a big city like Houston can be especially startling for them. Moreover, they are exposed to vehicle emissions and other pollutants at close range which could lead to respiratory issues over time.
The presence of horse-drawn carriages on busy roads also poses a risk for traffic accidents. Horses get easily scared by honking cars or other sudden noises leading them to behave unpredictably which could result in serious accidents endangering both human and animal lives.
Accordingly, it's not just about animal rights but also about public safety. It's high time we reconsider this outdated practice that subjects horses to unnecessary suffering and puts people at risk on our roads.
Let us stand together against this form of animal cruelty in our city. Let us advocate for alternatives such as electric carriages that would keep the charm alive without causing harm or distress to any living being.
Please sign this petition calling upon our local authorities in Houston, TX, USA, to ban horse-drawn carriages from our streets.
