Prohibit Squatting Trucks in Arkansas for Road Safety
The Issue
I am a resident of Arkansas, and I have personally witnessed the dangers that squatted trucks pose on our roads. It has been proven that these modified vehicles not only endanger the drivers themselves, but put all other drivers on the road at risk. It is time we regulate this unnecessary, harmful modification.
Squatting a vehicle causes disproportionate weight distribution by lowering the rear end and raising the front end. This modification shifts the center of gravity of the vehicle, causing unpredictable traction, lessened steering control, and decreased breaking efficiency. This is especially dangerous around sharp turns and at high speeds. Compiled with the fact that the driver’s view of smaller vehicles and pedestrians is obstructed, it is clear why numerous accidents have been reported to be caused by squatting across America. According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), vehicle modifications like squatting can increase the likelihood of accidents by up to 30%. This has caused other states such as North Carolina, Virginia and South Carolina to ban squatting vehicles.
We can see Arkansas is committed to ensuring road safety for all of its residents. It is time we extend this commitment towards regulating this vehicle modification that poses a clear danger on our citizens.
By signing this petition, you are urging lawmakers in Arkansas to enact legislation making it illegal to modify trucks in such a way that jeopardizes public safety. Let's work together towards safer roads in Arkansas!
