Prohibit Smoking in Vehicles with Minors Present in Michigan

Prohibit Smoking in Vehicles with Minors Present in Michigan
The Issue
I am a concerned citizen of Michigan, deeply worried about the health of my family and all families across our state. The issue is personal to me as it directly impacts the wellbeing of our children, who are often helpless passengers exposed to secondhand smoke in vehicles.
Secondhand smoke contains over 7,000 chemicals and toxins, hundreds of which are toxic and about 70 can cause cancer (source: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). Children exposed to secondhand smoke are at a higher risk for severe asthma attacks, respiratory infections, ear infections, and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
Currently there is no law in Michigan that prohibits smoking in vehicles when minors are present. This leaves our children vulnerable to the harmful effects of secondhand smoke every time they ride with an adult who smokes.
We need your help to change this. We urge lawmakers in Michigan to pass legislation prohibiting smoking inside vehicles when minors are present. This would not only protect the health of our children but also send a strong message about the dangers associated with exposure to secondhand smoke.
Please sign this petition today if you believe that every child has a right to breathe clean air while traveling inside a vehicle. Together we can make a difference!
