I am a concerned citizen of Toronto, deeply troubled by the prevalence of smoking and vaping in and around our schools. This issue is personal to me as it directly threatens the future of our city. Our children, who are at a crucial stage of physical development, are being exposed to harmful substances that can lead to serious health issues later in life.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, secondhand smoke from cigarettes contains over 4,000 chemicals, many of which are known carcinogens. Furthermore, Health Canada has reported that vaping among youth has significantly increased in recent years. These trends pose significant risks not only for those who smoke or vape but also for those around them.

Our schools should be safe spaces where students can learn and grow without being subjected to such hazardous environments. It's time we take action against this growing concern.
