As a concerned parent in the UK, I am stepping forward with this petition due to a frightening personal incident. My 14-year-old son was harshly robbed and assaulted by two individuals with their faces concealed. This incident has left us traumatised and deeply worried about the safety of citizens in our society. While the intent of this petition is not to infringe upon religious freedoms, including practices such as the wearing of burqas or niqabs, it seeks to restrict the use of non-religious face coverings that can be exploited to undertake illegal activities under anonymity.

The UK is a land known for its tolerance and respect for multiple cultures and religions. However, a security trend analysis by the Home Office shows that there are instances where non-religious face coverings are misused (Home Office, 2018). This is not a petition against cultural or religious expressions but a call for the safety and security of our community.

This petition seeks legislative action to enact laws restricting the use of non-religious masks in public spaces and during public events. This, however, should not affect those with medical conditions requiring face coverings or in situations where safety gear is necessary, like construction sites or sporting events.
