Prohibit Nextdoor from Allowing "Rehoming" Advertisements for Animals

The Issue

Time and again, I noticed unsettling incidents of abuse stemming from animals being "rehomed" through the Nextdoor platform. It's deeply distressing and personal, as I have observed innocent creatures fall victim to malicious "buyers" who sidestep valid channels of rescue and adoption. This is a rising concern not just for me, but for all lovers of animals, highlighting the need for Nextdoor to take meaningful action. For one, there should be stricter measures in place to prevent such unregulated advertisements for "rehoming", which often serve as gateways for animal cruelty. According to the Humane Society of the United States, rehoming pets can lead to violation, exploitation, or even death as they may end up in the hands of animal abusers or illegal pet dealers. Nextdoor's existing policy overlooks these potential hazards, thereby, worsening the state of animal welfare. Our appeal is simple: We urge Nextdoor to update their policies to prohibit members from advertising animals for "rehoming". Only registered shelters and rescues should be afforded the privilege to do so. Let's unite to make a change that ensures the safety and well-being of our beloved animals. Please, sign this petition.
