Recently, I was informed by my daughters that male gym teachers have been entering their school locker rooms without prior announcements, creating discomfort and a potential invasion of privacy. School is a place meant to be safe and secure for our children, yet this disturbing occurrence has raised genuine concern and alarm within our family, along with those of many others.

Across the nation, girls should have the right to privacy in their locker rooms without interruption from male staff or their peers. This is not just about comfort, but about the dignity every student deserves whilst changing in and out of gym clothes at school. The YWCA reports that "privacy in areas such as changing rooms... are of special importance to uphold the dignity and self-esteem of all women and girls"(YWCA).

In order to establish this much-needed change, we call upon local and national education authorities to instigate policies that prohibit male staff from entering female student locker rooms without necessary precautionary measures. Such policies would not only secure privacy rights but also promote a safe, stress-free environment for our daughters in school.
