Prohibit Lexia Power Up and Lexia Core 5 in Global Academic Institutions

The Issue

Lexia, a learning website utilized in schools globally, boasts of fostering improved reading comprehension, grammar, and word study in children. Unfortunately, my personal -- and shared -- experience tells a drastically different story. It promises to aid in knowledge building yet it falters on that pledge by providing inaccurate review topics, and providing insufficient learning material. This is a prime illustration of its inefficiency. There's also the glaring issue of its seemingly lackadaisical approach towards student care. As such, trust in the site's reliability rapidly diminishes.

Numerous studies correlate quality of educational resources with overall student’s performance. A report from the National Council on Teacher Quality found that materials of high quality resulted in an improvement of student achievement by about 54% (NCTQ, 2015). Conversely, with an inaccurate and unreliable platform like Lexia, one can anticipate the harmful effects on students' performance.

Moreover, the OECD 2015 report on students, computers, and learning found that schools that use digital tools for teaching reading showed no significant improvements in reading abilities compared to conventional methods (OECD, 2015). This seems to be the scenario in schools worldwide, where Lexia is widely used but continues to disappoint.

It is pivotal for schools to provide resources that are beneficial to the learners, not detrimental. Therefore, we need to urge the education boards worldwide to stop using Lexia Power Up and Lexia Core 5 in schools, and instead invest in reliable, tested educational tools. Lexia claims they are all for literacy, but they are really all for misinformation.
