Prohibit ICE Agent Presence in K-12 Schools During Class Hours

Prohibit ICE Agent Presence in K-12 Schools During Class Hours
The Issue
As a retired educator and caring grandparent, I cannot stand by while the learning environments crucial to my grandchildren's growth and development, are compromised. Our K-12 institutions must remain bastions of education, free from the intimidating presence of immigration enforcement agents. Safe learning spaces are vital for the psychological, emotional, and academic well-being of all students. Studies consistently suggest that stressed and fearful students underperform acadically, with long-lasting implications for their futures and our society (American Psychological Association, 2015).
Unfortunately, current laws do not sufficiently protect our schools from the presence of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. While we understand their role in upholding immigration law, we assert that they can continue their work without turning our schools into areas of fear and uncertainty, thereby diminishing their true objective of education.
We propose federal legislation that prohibits the presence of ICE agents in K-12 schools while classes and extra-curricular activities are in progress. This is not an agenda to provide sanctuaries for undocumented students, but a petition to protect their right to education, free from fear and undue stress, during the school day.
Our schools should not be battlegrounds, nor should our children be used as pawns in political struggles. They deserve to be educated in an environment that prioritizes learning above all else. Please support our initiative to remove ICE agents from K-12 schools during class hours and school events. It is time to prioritize the children, our future, before any political agenda. Sign our petition, safeguard their right to a fear-free education.
