Prohibit Dual Citizenship for Elected Officials in the United States

The Issue

Like many of you, an issue that is deeply personal to me is the concern about the potential conflict of interest in our political system. More specifically, I am troubled by an issue that doesn't receive enough attention - that of elected officials holding dual citizenship. This isn't about questioning loyalty, but rather, about maintaining the focus of our representatives entirely on the interests of the United States. People cannot serve two masters. It's time we address this often overlooked issue for the sake of transparency and integrity in our government.

The current U.S. law doesn't prohibit elected officials from possessing dual citizenship. It is crucial to note, however, that the Foreign Emoluments Clause of the Constitution (Article I, Section 9, Clause 8) does restrict members of the federal government from receiving gifts from foreign states without the consent of the Congress. This is to prevent potential corruption and conflicts of interest, showing that our founding fathers considered the risk.

Yet dual citizenship can create a similar conflict, dividing the focus and priorities of our elected officials. To maintain the sanctity of our political system, we need explicit legal measures against dual citizenship for elected officials.

Let's call on Congress to implement a law prohibiting dual citizenship for all elected officials in the United States to ensure that they prioritize American interests above all else. Let's create a transparent and trustworthy political environment that ensures allegiance to one nation only: The United States of America.

Please sign this petition to call for these critical changes. Together, we can strengthen the integrity of our political system.
