Petition: Code for the Planet — Mandating AI Safety Protocols to Protect Nature
To: Leading Artificial Intelligence Developers, International AI Safety Bodies, and Global Tech Regulators
 
The Request
We, the undersigned, urgently request that all foundational artificial intelligence models, autonomous weapons systems, and industrial automation algorithms be programmed with hardcoded, non-negotiable safety guardrails that protect nature.
Just as AI models are built with strict safety guidelines to prevent human harm, they must also be coded to protect the environment. We demand that AI source code explicitly restricts systems from:
Targeting or destroying wildlife, marine life, bird habitats, and ancient forests in autonomous military or security operations.
Formulating agricultural or industrial plans that accelerate deforestation, overfishing, or toxic chemical pollution.
Exploiting or optimizing natural resources past irreversible ecological tipping points.
We call for an international software standard that embeds ecological geofencing and computer-vision environmental protection rules directly into core AI code. AI must be a shield for our planet’s biodiversity, not an automated accelerator of its destruction.
