Prioritizing the secure entrance at Shawnee Heights Elementary
Prioritizing the secure entrance at Shawnee Heights Elementary
The Issue
In November 2025 our district voted to fund a $65 million bond for renovations to the buildings of USD 450. The plans included the creation of a secure entrance for Shawnee Heights Elementary School, the only building in the district without one. Recently the construction schedule was released and our new entrance won't be started until Summer of 2027. This is a safety issue and the taxpayers of who voted for the bond believe this project should be a priority. We are reaching out to the Superintendent, Sheila Meggers, and the members of the Board of Education, asking that the construction be moved to Summer of 2026. If moving construction to Summer of 2026 is not feasible, we are asking for a temporary solution to make our entrance safer until the full plan can be executed on the current timeline.
We the undersigned are in support of this measure.
