The Everitt Memorial Highway and Castle Lake Road are essential for accessing winter backcountry recreation (sledding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, backcountry skiing, snowshoeing) in Siskiyou County. Unfortunately, these roads have been closed for most of the winter of 2022/2023. The winter recreation accessed by these roads is critical for community physical and mental well-being. It is the reason many call Siskiyou County home. It is also a significant draw for out-of-town visitors to the area, which is a vital part of the local economy.

While we acknowledge the abundant snowfall this winter has made maintaining Everitt Memorial Highway and Castle Lake Road a challenge for Siskiyou County Public Works, we ask the Siskiyou County Supervisors to find a long term funding solution for the maintenance of these heavily used recreational corridors for the benefit of our community and economy.
