The Issue

It's hard to focus on learning when you're often interrupted by sudden power outages. Across the country, students just like us are experiencing the same challenge. Power failures in our classrooms halt our education abruptly. Learning becomes a struggle when each day poses the possibility of a blackout disrupting our studies.

This situation is unacceptable. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, the average American school is around 44 years old, and many school infrastructure systems are outdated or nearing the end of their useful life, including electrical systems (source: U.S. Department of Energy, 2020). Our country's future leaders should not have to face such adversity when seeking an education.

The situation significantly impacts academic performance. School districts reported a 67% increase in school closings or early dismissals due to infrastructural issues, including power outages, over the past decade (source: U.S. Government Accountability Office, 2020).

We insist that education authorities and local government bodies prioritize the repair and modernization of electrical systems within every school building nationwide. Our learning environment should be a place where we can concentrate on our studies without worrying about disruptions. Our education is our future; power interruptions should not be part of it.
