Community advocacy is already making an impact.

After San Miguel residents raised concerns about the mailed notices for the proposed Fair Oaks Plaza redevelopment (929 E. Duane Ave), Sunnyvale City staff has confirmed that the March 17 developer outreach meeting will be rescheduled for a later date.

Multiple versions of the notice were mailed with missing, inconsistent, and differing contact information for the applicant team. In addition, the meeting access details were unclear. In some cases, residents were told only to “Join on Teams” without a dial-in option. Where a link was provided, it appeared as a non-functional hyperlink rather than a full, usable URL. This meant some residents may not have been able to attend or even understand how to participate. These discrepancies created real barriers to participation and raised serious concerns about whether everyone had a fair opportunity to engage in a decision that directly affects our neighborhood.

As a result, the City has agreed to work with the developer to issue a corrected notice and set a new meeting date.

The revised notice is expected to include:

• Clear and fully functional meeting access information

• Accurate and consistent contact details for the project team

• An evening meeting time (after 6pm) to improve participation

This is an important reminder that when a community speaks up together, it can influence the process. Fair notice, transparency, and meaningful public participation are essential in decisions of this scale.

However, the core issue remains unresolved. The future of neighborhood-serving retail and grocery access at Fair Oaks Plaza is still at risk.

Rescheduling the meeting is a step forward, but the need to protect equitable access to everyday services in North Sunnyvale remains URGENT.

Please continue signing and sharing this petition so decision makers understand how critical this issue is for our community.

We will share updates as soon as a new outreach date is announced.

Stronger together,
North Sunnyvale Community
