Prioritize Children's Voices in Family Court

Prioritize Children's Voices in Family Court
The Issue
🌱 Mission Statement
Speak4OurChildren is a global survivor-led campaign calling for urgent reform in family law systems that continue to retraumatise children in coercive post-separation contexts. We exist to expose how these systems silence young voices, dismiss lived trauma, and protect abusers over victims.
Children are not just bystanders — they are victims themselves. And yet, they are excluded from decisions that shape their safety and wellbeing. We stand to change that.
This is not just a campaign. It’s a reckoning — and every voice matters.
Navigating the Family Court System has been a harrowing experience that has left me feeling voiceless and powerless, both as a woman and as a mother. Within these walls, stories of horror and manipulation unfold, yet they remain unheard and unspoken. The unfortunate reality is that children, who should be our utmost priority, are often reduced to pawns in this endless and tormenting game. It's time we listened to their cries.
Family court proceedings should champion the voices of the children involved, and their welfare ought to be prioritized. The traditional notion that children are to be seen and not heard is obsolete and destructive, especially in this context. Each decision made by professionals in these settings directly impacts the young lives involved. As society progresses, so too must our institutions; and there is no room for archaic practices when the stakes are the wellbeing and security of our children.
Separation Abuse, an insidious form of manipulation and control, leaves deep psychological scars on children. This kind of abuse is not just a personal offense, it's a societal one; it damages the very fabric of homes and hearts across the world, manifesting in life-long repercussions for innocent young minds. Such offenses must be recognized as a crime against humanity, a blight on our collective conscience.
Policy change that enshrines the voices of children as central in the court's considerations is crucial. By integrating child psychologists and specially trained advocates within the family court system, we ensure their stories are not only heard, but respected and acted upon. The development of child-friendly legal proceedings, where the environment is adapted to be less intimidating and more conducive to truthful, open dialogues, is imperative.
We must combat this deeply traumatic abuse and reshape the current system to one that truly represents justice—justice that understands and empathizes with those who need it most, our children. Join me in urging policymakers and legal professionals to make these necessary changes in our Family Court System. Our children's futures depend on it. Please sign this petition to demand the rightful transformation and ensure that children's voices are the foundation upon which all family court decisions are built.
✍️ Closing Statement
Children harmed by coercive control are being excluded from the systems that should protect them. Their truths have been buried, and their rights denied.
This petition is a call to listen, act, and protect.
We demand:
- That children be recognised as *victims*, not passive observers
- That courts and institutions prioritise *trauma-informed, child-centred responses*
- That survivor-led truth shapes *family law reform*
