Crystal River Middle school dress code

Crystal River Middle school dress code

The Issue

Attention Crystal River Middle school staff, us students are wanting a change. No, we’re not wanting a new bathroom or another cafeteria. We the students are wanting to improve the student dress code policy and come to a school wide agreement on how students should come to school dressed.

First off, students should be allowed to have holes in their jeans/skirts anywhere with a patch underneath. It is 2021, ripped jeans are trending all over the United States. What most of our favorite stores sell is ripped jeans breaking our student dress code guide lines. Therefore, students should be allowed to wear an iron on patch underneath their holes to keep up with the trends and to prevent skin from showing in inappropriate areas.

Second off, students should be allowed to wear opaque leggings with a shirt/sweat shirt that covers their bottom. There is no difference between skinny jeans and a pair of athletic leggings. According to page 35 of the Student Code of Conduct for Citrus County “tight-fitting clothing [is] not permitted unless covered by other approved clothing”. We acknowledge this and we’re not wanting to change this, we just want to change what is approved to wear over our leggings and what length it has to be. Students should be allowed to wear just an oversized shirt/sweat shirt that covers their bottom. However, students should not be wearing leggings that are see through and if they are then they should be asked to change. We are not asking to dress inappropriately, we are asking to dress comfortably. Students should be comfortable when they’re learning, the more relaxed we are the more we learn.

Another important point to bring up is how our educators here at school are out of dress code. If students aren’t allowed to wear ripped jeans with patches or leggings then neither should the people who are supposed to be setting an example around our campus. The dress code should be just as strict on teachers as it is on students. Educators out of dress code makes our campus look unprofessional.

We students just ask that you review our request and take our wishes into consideration as we do yours. We understand your point of view on our dress code and we hope we can make a compromise.
