Largely in fear of rugby's potential for liability for the school, administrators threaten to close established rugby programs. Last year, it was Fallbrook High School's teams threatened... yes, the reining National High School girls team! Both their girls and boys teams were told they could no longer practice and play at Fallbrook. This time it's Valhalla. So how do we change this? Time and time again, by both school Athletic Directors and Principals, we've been told this: "If rugby were a CIF sport, we'd support a rugby team at our school immediately!" So it's time to make rugby a CIF sport. It's actually way overdue. "CIF" stands for California Interscholastic Federation, and once you become sanctioned by the CIF you're a "sport" worth playing at California High Schools.
