The Issue

Willow Glen High School (WGHS) has experienced frequent leadership changes in recent years, with each of the last three principals serving only three years. This instability, compounded by high turnover among assistant principals, has taken a toll on the school community. Now more than ever, WGHS needs steady, committed leadership.

Principal Amy Hanna should be retained—not only because of her long-term commitment to the school, but also because of the meaningful relationships she has built and the significant progress made under her leadership.

Principal Hanna’s impact on WGHS has been substantial:

  • Secured a 6-year WASC accreditation, leading a team of teachers and earning high praise from the visiting committee.
  • Improved campus safety and climate, resulting in higher attendance, reduced truancy, and fewer tardy students.
  • Built strong staff support through inclusive leadership—this year saw zero teacher attrition (prior to news of her potential departure) and widespread praise during staff and community input sessions.
  • Earned student trust through fair, consistent enforcement of policies and equitable handling of attendance issues.
  • Strengthened community ties through a visible, enthusiastic presence at school events, thoughtful handling of procedures at a home basketball game after safety concerns, and relentless efforts to foster school spirit.

Principal Hanna’s continued leadership is essential to sustaining the momentum and stability WGHS has achieved. We strongly urge the district to retain her.
