Hi there,
It has been almost three months since the Taliban seized Kabul and Australian troops, as well as the US and other forces, withdrew after a 20-year long invasion.
The Morrison Government’s response has been wholly inadequate.
Yesterday, human rights and legal organisations from around Australia told a Senate Inquiry investigating Australia’s engagement in Afghanistan why the Morrison Government must do more for the people of Afghanistan.
Now is the time to remind Minister Alex Hawke that the Australian community demands #ActionForAfghanistan.
Can you call Alex Hawke MP today?
Even if you’ve called before, please call again. It’s important that the Minister hears from you this week so that he knows that the pressure is still on.
This is a humanitarian crisis.
More than half a million people have been displaced this year alone. Over 130,000 people from Afghanistan have applied for protection in Australia in just a few months - but the government has so far only committed 3000 places.
The Law Council of Australia, Save the Children Australia, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Refugee Advice & Casework Service and more organisations gave evidence yesterday to The Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade References Committee’s Inquiry into Australia’s engagement in Afghanistan.
We are united in our call for the Morrison Government to take meaningful action on Afghanistan, such as an additional humanitarian intake of at least 20,000 people and permanent protection to refugees from Afghanistan in Australia.
Can you add your voice by calling Alex Hawke MP today?
Thanks for all your support,
Shabnam and Batoor,
on behalf of the Afghanistan-Australian Advocacy Network (AAAN) and Diaspora Advocacy Network for Afghanistan (DANA)
