A long tailed Macaque monkey, clearly domesticated, was found on February 4th 2016 living in Lower Kent Ridge Park area of Normanton in Singapore. Chippy as he was  called was not exhibiting natural wild behaviour and was subjected to frequent abuse by members of the public.

After months of petitioning for his rescue and release to a Sanctuary he eventually disappeared on 11th August 2016. Other than a murky video shown by ACRES he has not been seen since, nor was any credible information forthcoming from any of the authorities about his progress or 'rehabilitation' released to any of the thousands of interested parties.

I have seen on the internet that culling of long tailed Macaques has been taking place since at least 2013 in response to complaints. This culling which many of us may find reprehensible, is now the issue here. Long tailed Macaques are already a much victimized species as they are extremely popular in laboratory experimentation and it is a known fact that many wild monkeys have ended their lives in such places contrary to CITES regulations.

I wrote  to both Louis Ng MP for Nee Soon GRC and AVA in my official capacity as Sanctuary Director and neither saw fit to reply to my questions. Instead the discussions about Chippy’s future did not include any compassionate option. At one point AVA were preparing to release Chippy to our Sanctuary, until the objections of ACRES which I feel must have been encouraged by Louis Ng who became involved after I attempted to enlist his help. All of my letters to them stressed our respect for confidentiality. These Organisations’ treatment of the residents and Chippy and their total disregard of my correspondence with them  led me to place this in the public arena. Not one response was forthcoming in 8 months which is discourteous in the extreme and leads only to suspicion as to Chippy's ultimate fate.
