Install credible Ministers of Health and Manpower and end our Migrant Worker Woes
The Issue
In the morning of Wed 15 July, an account by Ms Tsjin Dolly Chandra (www.facebook.com/dollytsjin) of how Singapore’s COVID cases could still be never-ending surfaced.
Accordingly, a worker had his swab test done on 07July and received an SMS on 13July @ 8.30am from the Ministry of Health he was tested positive and that he was to inform his dorm operator immediately.
Having done so, the dorm operator told the affected worker they couldn’t do anything except advise the rest of his dorm room to put on masks - which the latter had been doing all this while. Concerned with this reply, the MOH hotline was dialled immediately to which the ministry‘s officer replied they needed about 24hrs to make arrangements. Apparently the matter was passed on to the task force. Over 48hrs later, this COVID positive worker had no choice but to stay with 11 other healthy workers.
And here’s the kicker:
MOH was called again in the morning of 15 July. And lo and behold, the ministry had no record of this worker.
We, the undersigned, therefore ask for Cabinet Ministers with experience in the fields of health care and manpower management to replace Mr Gan Kim Yong and Ms Josephine Teo as well in seek the assistance of professionals and experts in the control of infectious diseases. Singaporeans need to trust their government at the moment, and the continuance of the two current MOH and MOM ministers while cases spread like these do not instil confidence amongst the people.
We also ask that no unwarranted prosecution be made on the parties involved until a full investigation is carried out at a later time.
Thank you, we look forward to hearing from you soon.
