The Issue

In our small and tight-knit community The Hampshires  in Mooresville, NC, we value the peace and security that comes with having our private neighborhood roads. However, the town's recent plan to connect through our neighborhood to reach a new rental community threatens to disrupt our way of life. This change will significantly increase traffic on our roads, which are not designed to handle such volume, and raise safety concerns for our children ,pedestrians and pets .

The increase in traffic will accelerate the wear and tear on our private roads, leading to more frequent and costly repairs. These roads were not built to endure high traffic and the additional maintenance would put a financial strain on our small community, which runs on a limited budget. We cannot afford the potential increase in costs nor the insurance liabilities that come with higher traffic volumes.

Furthermore, this development could impinge upon our neighborhood's character, transforming a quiet, peaceful environment into a busy thoroughfare. Introducing rental traffic would compromise the safety and quality of life that our residents currently enjoy. We are increasingly concerned about safety, as our private roads are not patrolled by law enforcement and traffic laws are not enforced, which poses a serious risk to our residents.

We understand that a survey indicated minimal traffic impact; however, with new communities being built on Faith Road, traffic has become increasingly problematic. We are concerned that our community will be used as a shortcut to Faith Road in order to access Highway 115 more quickly. There are alternative routes that can be developed to connect to the rental area without intruding into our neighborhood, preserving both our community’s integrity and the town’s expansion plans.

We urge the town planners and local government to reconsider these plans and seek alternative routes that do not exploit our neighborhood’s infrastructure. Please support us in preserving the safety, integrity, and peace of our beloved community by signing this petition. Together, we can make our voices heard and protect our Hampshire neighborhood from unnecessary disruption.
