I am a member of AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), an innovative educational program designed to close the achievement gap and prepare students for college. This program has been instrumental in my academic journey, with hopes of securing a college scholarship through it. However, our school board in Wichita, KS is canceling this vital program.

AVID has proven to be successful across the nation. According to data from the AVID Center, 85% of AVID students enroll in college compared to 61% nationwide average (source: AVID Center). The decision by our school board threatens not only my future but also that of many other promising students who rely on this program for their academic advancement.

We urge the school board to reconsider their decision and recognize how crucial programs like AVID are for student success.
