Prevent the Release of Convicted Murderer Sean Barclay Goff

Prevent the Release of Convicted Murderer Sean Barclay Goff
The Issue
Joy Risker, a dear friend to many in our community, was brutally taken from us on September 19, 2003. Her life was prematurely ended by Sean Barclay Goff in a premeditated act of violence. She’d been stabbed at least 12 times in the chest. The bones of her face were wrecked by blunt force. There were elements, like her teeth, missing from her. Her jaw bone and teeth had been excised. The bones of her fingers had been sliced off. And he then buried her under a pile of rocks in the Arizona desert.
Goff became eligible for parole in October 2023 after only 20 years of his 25-to-life sentence. Today, we stand together to ensure that justice continues to be served.
Goff has been tentatively given a Parole Suitability Hearing on April 11, 2024. Goff's potential parole is not just a threat to our community's safety but also an affront to the memory of Joy Risker. His conviction for premeditated murder should be upheld as a testament to the severity of his crime and as a reminder that such heinous acts will not be tolerated.
In California alone, over 50% of released murderers are rearrested within three years (source: California Department of Corrections). This statistic underscores the potential risk posed by Goff's release. We cannot allow this risk in San Diego - our home and Joy Risker’s home.
We urge you all - friends, family members, neighbors - anyone who values justice and public safety - to sign this petition. Let us honor Joy Risker’s memory by ensuring her murderer remains behind bars where he belongs. Please sign this petition today.
