Prevent the involvement of suspended individuals in the gurdwara
The Issue
As a parent whose children regularly attend Sikhi and Punjabi classes at our local gurdwara, I am deeply concerned about the potential involvement of individuals who have previously been suspended from participating in gurdwara activities, specifically referring to Gurjit Kaur. Gurjit Kaur was previously suspended, and there are now discussions about her return. Many of us parents worry about the safety and well-being of our children under such circumstances.
The gurdwara is a sacred space, a place for worship, learning, and community gathering, and we have every right to ensure it remains a safe haven for our children. The past suspension of Gurjit Kaur should not be taken lightly, and we urge the gurdwara committee to prioritize the safety of the community members, especially the children.
Evidence shows that communities thrive when there is mutual trust and respect among all members. By allowing someone who has been previously suspended to return, this trust is being questioned. We believe that any individual involved in teaching or interacting with our children should be beyond reproach. While everyone deserves a chance for redemption, the safety and well-being of our community, especially its youngest members, must come first.
Many parents, like myself, have voiced their concerns about Gurjit Kaur's involvement, and it’s crucial that these concerns are heard and addressed appropriately. To maintain transparency and safety, we propose that the gurdwara committee:
1. Conducts a thorough review of the circumstances surrounding Gurjit Kaur’s suspension and her potential reintegration.
2. Engages parents, teachers, and community leaders in any decision-making processes related to the involvement of previously suspended individuals.
3. Establishes clear guidelines and criteria for re-integrating suspended individuals to protect all community members.
Let's ensure that our gurdwara continues to be a safe and trusted place for everyone. Please support us by signing this petition to keep suspended individuals, like Gurjit Kaur, from returning without proper vetting and community approval. Our children's safety and the integrity of our gurdwara community depend on it. Sign this petition today to lend your voice for a safer community space.
