Even after listening to the Board of Education meeting on January 12th, I still don’t see how this schedule benefits us in any way.

It will make it harder for us to learn, it makes it even tougher to take AP classes, and it worsens our mental health. First of all, if we take a class in the first semester and don’t have it the second semester we are going to forget what we learned. This is also the case for AP classes. Students take the AP tests in May, so if they take an AP class in the first semester that information won’t be fresh in their brain for when they take the exam.

Also, I can’t imagine having to sit in the same classes for 90 mins, 5x a week, for a whole semester. It’s going to be extremely repetitive and we are going to lose any interest we have in learning. We are going to have more homework because we will need to get it everyday from 4 classes. If you do sports or extracurriculars or have a job, which most students do, you are not going to have a lot of time to complete this homework. Once again, it is going to be even more difficult for AP students as they will have to complete work for multiple AP classes each night. We are going to get less sleep and have more stress.

The A/B block schedule that AITE has is working perfectly fine. Why do we need to change it? If we want the high schools to be cohesive, then why don’t Stamford High and Westhill switch to this A/B schedule as well. The mission of Stamford Public Schools is to provide an education that cultivates productive habits of mind, body and heart in every student. I don’t see this 4x4 schedule doing that.
