The sisterhood of Girl Scouts across the United States has been an integral part of my life and the lives of many other young girls seeking personal growth. The proposed increase in fees from the current $25 to $85 for girls and $25 to $45 for volunteers starting in 2026 is drastic. This hike will inevitably place an overwhelming financial burden on families and volunteers alike. The Girl Scouts of the USA has always been about inclusivity and fostering growth for girls irrespective of their socio-economic background. However, these proposed increases threatens this spirit of inclusivity.

Statistics show that one in five children live in families with incomes below the poverty line [Source: National Center for Children in Poverty]. Hence, this could potentially exclude 20% of the Girl Scout's demographic from being able to afford membership and partake in the valuable programs Girl Scouts offer.

We can't allow iconic American organizations like Girl Scouts to shift their costs onto the very families they serve. This policy must be reconsidered and appropriate steps by the organization ought to be taken to ensure Girl Scouts remains affordable to all.
